Central, homely and unique are but a few ways to describe the eye-catching Old Joint Stock Pub and Theatre, in the heart of Birmingham City Centre just a short walk from Snow Hill station and New Street Station. Born originally as a library in 1862 then later a bank, this decadent and richly decorated…
Description
The first act will consist of an introduction by ‘The Librarian’ who will tell an original tale of suspense and horror from the vaults of Weeping Bank library. Using sound effects and projected imagery the story will be brought to life with chilling results.
The second act will feature a full cast performance of ‘The Monkey’s Paw’, adapted for the stage by AA Birch.
The Monkey’s Paw is a classic supernatural tale first published in 1902 by WW Jacobs and has seen many stage and television adaptations. In this re-telling, Mr. and Mrs. White and their adult daughter, Harriet are visited by Sergeant-Major Morris, a friend of Mr White’s, who served with the British Army in India. He introduces them to a mummified monkey’s paw and tells them that an old fakir placed a spell on the paw, so that it would grant three wishes but only with hellish consequences as punishment for tampering with fate.
